What's your story?
The Andrikopoulos Family were photographed at the prahran studio in Melbourne in February 2007.
We decided to book a portrait experience because our children were growing quickly
and changing. We wanted a family portrait in our living room - an image that we
could share with friends and family.
The design
After our design consultation we knew that we were aiming for a very casual look,
almost as if we were all in bed together. In the pictures are Lorna (I’m Scottish,
moved to Australia in 1999), husband Lee who is Greek (born in Australia but spent
many years in Greece), and our girls Dion and Haris who are 7 years old and 4 years
old respectively. We say they are half Scottish half Greek and all Australian!
The photography
The best thing about the session was feeling relaxed in front of the camera! We
were so busy that we didn’t have the time to feel self conscious, we just had fun.
Even though our youngest daughter refused to wear her top, we love the shots of
her with just her jeans on – it adds to her sense of innocence. Seeing the images
for the first time was amazing and we definitely appreciated having help to choose
our favourites. When we came to collect our wall portrait it looked so bright and
cheerful. It’s hanging now in our living room and I love the way we are all snuggled
up together – that’s how we are at home. Having the album means that we get to see
all the other wonderful images any time we like.
What does family mean to us...
All four of us and the cat lying in bed on a Sunday morning. We call the weekend
family days as it is really important for us to spend time together. We work hard
all week, and the children are starting to get their own schedules for Greek school
lessons, after school activities and play dates with their friends. Family means
being together, accepting each other and listening to each other. I love the phrase
that the best way to be a parent is to give your children the roots to grow and
the wings to fly – I think that’s what our parents gave to us, and we’d love our
children to feel the same.
Families – nature's greatest masterpiece
Think of your favourite family photograph – no amount of insurance could compensate
you for the loss of that image. There is no better way of bringing your family together
and celebrating this point in your lives. Don't leave it too long to get everyone
together now – there's no better time.
